That's not 100% accurate. If it's non-opped, you CAN'T drive it on the street and CAN'T park it on the street." Its garaged, not being driven for atleast 4 more months So? What's your point? If it's not registered, it can't be anywhere on the street. Period. It doesn't matter if it's in your garage, in a shed, in your back yard, on your driveway; it doesn't matter, AS LONG AS IT'S NOT ON THE STREET.When one cancels insurance on a vehicle, the state yanks the registration. That sounds right, but somehow my uncle managed to avoid getting one (maybe because he is older and has no one 18 or under in his policy also?) He got lucky, that's all. "In Ca, you really don't want to drop insurance without dropping registration FIRST." why?. Because if you drop insurance first, the insurance sends your cancellation to the DMV. In the DMV database, it shows your insurance was dropped. Looks bad for you. DMV automatically cancels uninsured car's registration. If you cancel your registration (non-op filing), then there is nothing that happens inter-"agency". Everything that happens from then on shows that YOU did it. thanks Don't mention it. Thank yourself when you understand the way the procedure works and get everything straightened out.
